Flashback!: Western Birthday Party

July 29, 2013 by Tricia C.

Growing up in Texas, we had a lot of Western themed parties.  (Crazy, right?)  I have to tell y’all a secret…I hated them.  As a kid, I hated Western parties.  Can you tell?

My little brother on the other hand, who was pretty much the cutest little kid imaginable (pictured above and below), loooved them.  He had Western parties.  I didn’t.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d still pose for photo ops…

…and get up on that horse (or pony?)…

and eat the snacks (dur.)…

…but I still wasn’t feelin’ it.  Maybe it was the smell of the horses.  Maybe it was the uncomfortable cowboy hats.  It was probably just the pure amount of Western parties, because believe me, there were a lot.  (It definitely wasn’t the boots though, y’all…I loved those.)

Flash forward twenty years: Western themes make ADORABLE parties!  I know now.  I know.  I was so blind.  I couldn’t see through the horses and the clothes (which I totally appreciate now) to the hidden gems like these below.  My parents, parents’ friends, and teachers had some pretty awesome ideas (did you see that fake fire in the above picture? or the Donald Duck photo backdrop in the first picture?) and I was so inspired by them now that I had to make an inspiration board for a Western party.  Not if, but when I throw a Western-themed party for my future children, they will look something like this.  And my future kids will love them.
